Undergraduate Course Unit Selection 2025/26
Advice and guidance on how to complete course unit selection.
Your programme structure
Please ensure that you familiarise yourself with the programme structure which outlines your core and optional course units.
Your programme administrator will enrol you on to course units which are noted as ‘core’, ‘compulsory’ or ‘mandatory’. You will then need to make selections for the optional units. You can find your programme structure here.
Try to complete your selections as early as possible. Popular units will fill up quickly, so the earlier you enrol on your course units, the less likely they are to be full.
Course unit information
You can access course descriptions here or by selecting the 'My learning' section in MyManchester.
The course unit timetable
Please use the SALC Timetable 2025/26 document to search for course unit timetables. This opens a spreadsheet with all SALC units under the "Schedule SALC" tab. For non-SALC units, click on the "Schedule Non-SALC Units" tab.
If you are unable to use a spreadsheet, you may use this pdf version instead for SALC units, and this one for Non-SALC units
Allocation of seminar groups
During the course selection process, if you are choosing a unit within the Faculty of Humanities, you do not need to choose a seminar group where there is more than one option. Instead, you choose the lecture (or main) component. Following your selection choices, the Curriculum and Programmes Team will allocate you to seminar groups, which best fit your timetable.
In the event that we cannot allocate you to a seminar group, we will contact you by email to discuss your options.
Selecting your units
Course unit selection for 2025/26 will open for returning students in the week commencing 4 August 2025. The Curriculum and Programmes Team will email you with further information.

Free choice units
Free choice units are designed to widen your programme by encouraging you to take modules from different subjects.
